coaching

We help individuals and teams discover their talents, passions and resources in order to achieve extraordinary success. In doing this, our coaching service comes in two very different formats: outplacement services and executive coaching.

Outplacement

Outplacement is the support provided by employers to employees who are at risk of or are being made redundant. Outplacement services and support provide employees with the knowledge and skills for making the move to the next phase in their career, be it another job, a new business or further training and education. If the employer has not followed the correct proceedures when making people redundant then this could result in a costly and time consuming emplyment tribunal.

We have designed a flexible and affordable outplacement package to enable employers to offer a support programme for staff who are affected by redundancy. Our service enables your company to achieve financial imperatives whilst fulfilling your commitment to valuing your staff and maintaining a strong ethical profile. Other benefits include: avoiding negative press; and preventing low morale and motivation in the remaining workforce and replacing it with the reassurance that the organisation will support them.

We provide a group programme and individual coaching:

Our group programme supports people through a systematic and sympathetic review of their circumstances, fianancial and otherwise, as well as guiding them through job search methods. It uses practical tools to build up an action plan for overcoming the negative impact of redundancy. It consists of 8 core units:

  • Understanding and accepting change
  • Financial impact
  • Project me! Recognising opportunity
  • What do I really want? Definition & analysis of skills
  • Self assessment
  • Selling me – identifying opportunities – cv writing and job search
  • Action planning – goal setting
  • The next step – seeking opportunities – what/where next

The units have been planned so that they can be delivered over three half days. Their flexibility means that they can be adapted to suit a tighter time schedule if required.

Individual coaching is suited to the needs of management and includes a wider variety of career search tools. In addition to the core units offered in the group programme, individual coaching may include:

  • CV creation
  • Psychometric profiling
  • Personal marketing guidance
  • Personal impact and presentation
  • coaching for assessment centres and psychometric tests

Programmes supporting business continuity:

We offer an additional range of services to support those staff who remain:

Executive Coaching

Executive (Business) Coaching is for you if you are a manager, director, entrepreneur or partner with decision-making or people management responsibilities in an organisation of any size.

What is Executive Coaching?

A business person uses an executive coach as a reliable, confidential sounding board who provides clarity and perspective while prompting personal change. Together we define and explore your professional success and leadership goals and support you in uncovering what is holding you back.

Coaching for change in the workplace

A common catalyst for coaching is change in the workplace – be it at organisational, team or personal level. Transitions are times of impact on the emotions where perceptions and feelings are as important as efficiency and speed. Organisations are often slow to realise the effects of this and so an external coach can provide the support.

Other reasons for coaching

Typical outcomes could include:

  • to increase your choices and opportunities in your career
  • to manage change in your career
  • to find new opportunities after redundancy
  • to build confidence
  • to have more energy and motivation
  • to develop skills you already have or learn new skills
  • to gain insight into yourself and the people you work with
  • to get unbiased, confidential support
  • to gain fresh perspectives on your issues

Every client and each organisational culture is unique so the coaching goals clients set for themselves are individual and vary widely. However, some common themes for our executive coaching clients are:

  • Leadership styles – developing flexibility of style
  • Presenting powerfully – communicating persuasively to win the hearts and minds of small or large audiences
  • Thinking strategically
  • Making clear, confident decisions
  • Career management
  • Developing key Emotional Competencies (EQ)
  • Communication skills
  • Time Management
  • Work-Life balance

How it works

We normally offer 6-8 sessions over a 4-6 month period. We are happy however to be flexible in the programme according to our client's needs. Although we stress that there is not one way to coach someone, typically a coaching programme will take a format like the one below:

  1. First we hold a short introductory session with the individual, using it as a ‘chemistry check’ as well as an opportunity to define the coaching objectives. The first  sessions are then devoted to getting to know our client and helping them to reflect on where they are now. To do this we act as a mirror to them, analysing their personal style using Myers Briggs, a personality inventory, and also offering a 360 degree feedback to help them see how others view them.
  2. We then focus on where the client wants to be – helping them to clarify their goals for success and identify the elements which will determine their professional fulfilment.
  3. At this point we work with our client to identify several short-term objectives that will enable them to reach their goal. Following on from this we encourage the client to create an action plan to realise these objectives using the knowledge of their personal style and strengths and limitations in their capability.
  4. Over the course of the remaining few sessions we meet with our clients to discuss progress against the action plan and to facilitate amendments to be made to the plan if the situation changes. We continue to encourage the client to maintain the momentum.

Two key benefits to the organisation

  1. Whether the key commercial goal is maximising productivity, improving the bottom-line or growing sales, the best strategic plan remains just that until individuals understand it and value the goal enough to make their best contribution to it.
  2. Real performance improvement comes from releasing those skills that make the difference between satisfactory and truly successful performance. Many people feel that "you either have these qualities or you don’t". We know these competencies can be coached.

Our style

We believe there is no ‘one way’ to coach someone. So we use a mixture of styles and models for coaching, including  NLP and Positive Psychology to name but two. Throughout our coaching contact we remain neutral by practicing objectivity and integrity, and removing any personal agenda. We focus on the positive by being supportive and constructive in our feedback but we are not afraid to ask tough questions if challenging them would help clients to face up to a difficult issue. It is important that the client feels comfortable with the coach and we work to make sure there is the best fit of personality and style.
